Study & Organization Skills
Develop good habits early in the school year!

For many students study and organizational skills can be learned and just like other learned behaviors, they must be practiced. You will need to help in the beginning, but after a while your children should become adept at implementing the following behaviors as part of their daily routine.

Here are a few tips:

Find a quiet place to study where you can really concentrate on your homework. Turn off the TV, radio, phone, etc. These things are too distracting.

Develop a system to keep track of important papers. A binder or folder will suffice. What's most important is to find what works and stick with it.

Use a planner or calendar to keep track of assignments. Write down each daily assignment in each subject and check it off when it's complete.

Estimate how long each assignment will take and plan accordingly - break big projects into smaller ones.

If you are not sure about something, ask a teacher, parent or friend for help. Asking questions is one of the most effective ways we lean

Plan to spend MORE time on the subjects that are the hardest for you.

Reward yourself with something fun when you are done studying.

Internet Saftey

Keeping our kids safe on-line!

While the advent of the internet has had a profound effect on the way we work, live and learn - it has also completely changed the way in which our children interact with each other and the world in general.

Today, our homes are filled with computers, smart phones and IPads and children have more access than ever to the internet and the world at large. Left unattended and uninformed, children are vulnerable to exploitation and harm by strangers looking to exploit them through the use of on-line services.

Tutor Spotlight - Lesle Meyers

We recently sat down with one of our most popular tutors to find out more about her passion for education.

What do you enjoy most about tutoring?
I find it extremely rewarding to help students understand information that has been difficult for them. To watch them grow and build a confidence in the subject and about themselves is a wonderful feeling.

What subject is your specialty?

Reading is my specialty. I am now retired after teaching for 36 years. Hopefully I have passed on my love for literature to many.

How do you measure your students progress and success?
When I see that a student is motivated to work at tutoring sessions I know that I have reached some level of success. Also, when a student has gained confidence in themselves and realizes with practice that they can overcome their learning difficulties. There are always monthly assessments and evaluations to deal with comprehension and decoding problems.
